How does Safyr work?
Safyr works initially by connecting to a customer’s own implementation of the Enterprise application and extracting all the information (metadata) about tables and their relationships, table row counts etc., including any customisations and storing that data in its own repository.
The connection with the application is then cut and technical and non technical users alike can utilise the search and filtering capabilities in Safyr to locate the exact information they need for their project. Safyr also builds an application hierarchy from the information recovered which provides an alternative starting point for investigation e.g. to find tables associated with a program or transaction.
Once that information has been found it can be viewed in logical and physical format as an enterprise relationship diagram or exported for further analysis to modelling and repository tools.
The information is often used to inform developers of the location of their source or target tables in integration projects.
Safyr complements other products such as data modelling tools (e.g. Erwin, PowerDesigner, ERStudio, IBM Rational System Architect, Visio etc), metadata repository tools (e.g. ASG Rochade), ETL products (e.g. Pitney Bowes Business Insight, Informatica etc) and test data generation (e.g. DataMaker from Grid-Tools).
